How to Apply


Spring 2012
Applicants must be of second semester Sophomore standing (or at least 4 academic year semesters remaining at UC Berkeley) and have a approx. 3.4 GPA.

  • Application form (please note that forms completed electronically must be submitted electronically as an email attachment). Applications may also be submitted in person or via email.
  • Statement of purpose (up to 3 pages): Address how you demonstrate the values of the MMUF program and Dr. Benjamin E. Mays. A biography of Dr. Mays can be found at http://www.anb.org/articles/15/15-01112.html
  • Three letters of recommendation, of which two must be from faculty members. Faculty members should use the pdf form available here. PLEASE NOTE: Student applicants MUST fill out the top portion of this form and sign it before passing it along for recommenders to complete.
  • As an applicant for the MMUF program, you are required to apply for at least one of the summer research program. Possible programs are listed in on our Resources page. Students may participate in programs at other institutions. For example, past Fellows have attended international study programs. Most deadlines are approximately February 1. For the few programs that require you to be an MMUF scholar, indicate on your application that you have applied for the UC Berkeley MMUF program.
